SS18 Fashion Trend Report: Summer styling tips
From tonal treats to summer sequin all day parties and powerful prints to being your very own vision in white, the spring summer 18 trends are bound to inspire and elate whatever your style. So here are some of my favourites for the season and my styling tips so you can confidently curate your own style this summer.
THE POWER OF PRINT
Plaid, gingham, stripes or polka dots are all up for grabs this season to mix and match to your heart’s content. All you have to remember is that these need to be different enough so that they really stand out when being mixed together. Polka dots and stripes work really well together and the best news is they usually come in either blue black or white black colour way combos, so are super easy to style or add a blazer to any look, it’s a classic staple and can be thrown over anything.
ALL WHITE EVERYTHING
Head to toe white is in, clean and serene. From elegant tailoring to boho chic there isn’t a look that you can’t achieve this season. Leaning personally towards the more relaxed side of this trend, there is ample opportunity to empathise with a much more natural style, easily paired with earthy tones to bring warmth to your look encouraging a vision of summer. You can always afford to be more experimental with different textures and shapes when dressing in white. A colour code that can be easily lifted by adding a pair of simplistic gold earrings and “natural looking” slippers for an effortlessly glamorous look.
The colour block trend is here to stay, lighting the way for the fashion confident and encouraging a rainbow spectrum in everyone’s wardrobe. If wearing this trend from head to toe, accessories included, then just make sure that all items are from the same tonal family and keep to structured cuts without too many details so as not to distract from the colour itself.
Alternatively add elements of bright vibrant colour pops to enhance your look such as an orange coat, white sunglasses and green shoes paired with jeans and plain white or black t – shirt. A chic look inspired directly from the catwalks.
Personally I’m not one to be found wearing paisley or even vibrant floral printed pieces, I’m more inclined to go on the hunt for florals with edge, the darker perhaps more gothic genre hues allowing for a subtler look with a suggesting nod to the trend. I’d also look for more simple shapes within my garments to ensure a more androgynous medium as opposed to overly feminine.
Pair this with either a pair of trainers or boots and a leather jacket or oversized knit and this will encourage a more stylised look that will also counter that feminine edge.
DISCO ON THE DAILY
It’s time to shine bright like a diamond all day everyday and adorn yourself in sequins, not just at night but first thing in the morning and all day too. Largely seen within a contemporary medium from shirt dresses and jumpers to skirts and jackets. You can wear these all at once paired with trainers or slippers for everyday effortless chic, or as the crowning glory to your outfit paired with simplistic pieces for elegance. It’s time to bring the disco to your day wear this spring/ summer season.
