AW18 Accessories Trend Report

Autumn Accessories Styling Tips

This seasons accessories bring us the perfect mixture of necessity and frivolity. Mirroring the AW18 clothing trend report, we are further enthused by the need for practicality, especially throughout the autumn/ winter months.

From investing into trends that you may have never thought you would, such as purchasing a pair of outdoor hiking boots or an enormous bag that could probably carry you as well as everything else wherever you needed to go - found in all kinds of shapes and sizes, using multiple textures and materials, to gloves for every occasion and investing in your very own pair of dad trainers - this season there’s a shift to the ever growing realism that comfort is best and that goes for your accessories too.

The frivolous part comes from our love for shiny things this season via glossier more foil - like fabrics and inclusions of animal print, encouraging a sense of ferocity to your look and of course a pair of statement, shoulder grazing earrings are sure to be the perfect accessory to your seasonal party dress, enticing glamour and sophistication especially paired with a one shouldered dress – they’ll be eye catching party season perfection.

Here are some of my favourite accessory trends for this AW18 season..

1.HUG – A – BAG

Big huggable bags basically – any shape, any size, any material, just big is key here really. Perfect for the season and we all know we love to put as much stuff in our handbags as possible which we know we will never use or perhaps maybe never even take out of said bag – logical thinking at its best, so thank god for this trend really, a fantastic excuse to continue the good work and break our shoulders at the same time.

Obviously you can wear these with anything you like and make them go with whatever you like – there are no rules in the big bag game.

Our love of white continues from SS18 particularly in footwear – white boots are now a thing so you best go buy yourself a pair and allow that 70’s chic to come to the forefront – you can either see them as your disco shoes that you’ll whip out every Friday night, or I personally feel a sense of the contemporary from this trend - a slick vibe with a more sci-fi based intention making them perhaps more utilitarian.

Add a pop of white to your look – white shoes particularly boots are hot this season, but however you wish to style this trend out is up to you. I personally love incorporating white pieces into my look such as statement jewellery or a clutch that is simple in shape and design against black to create an impactful look.

Fluff is back and bigger than ever, predominantly in bag form. No colour, hue or shape is off limits and brings a huggable cosy comfort element to your look.

Pair with any look, either go matching – mirroring the colours of the accessory with the colours of your outfit, or choose a colour clash bringing an interesting juxtaposition to your clothing.

Think big and chunky with patterned laces and colour blocking elements. Retro trainer dad chic that we have brought back and decided to make it cool but with a modern contemporary twist taking on either the flatform formation or reminiscent of a time of an idolised 90’s aesthetic must have.

Pair with wide leg trousers for either a tailored or dressed down look. Alternatively pair with a dress for a more stylised look.

Love a clutch! Always adds an element of swag to your look – nobody wants to be bringing the oversized handbag to the club. Got to be big enough to hold everything but not too big that it starts giving you wrist ache. This season is ideal for both of these things as they all seem to be of ample size with lots of different ways of holding, such as chains and straps making life a little easier and also come in many beautiful foil like tints and hues as well as both patterns and prints.

Choose tonal hues to compliment your chosen outfit or clash both print and texture to add depth to your look.

I’m pretty sure everyone already wears multiple pairs of tights and socks in the depths of the winter months but this season it’s actually a thing to wear socks and tights and both together, ensuring your toes stay toasty, which is sure to be a primitive ideal throughout this autumn / winter season.

Fishnet, striped, mesh, polka dot, patterned and printed all conform to this seasons trends worn in tight or sock form or both together, but obviously worn sock over tight if you’re wanting to layer up. Pair with heels for the night or for a more stylised day time look.

The classic Chanel - esque chained bag has powerfully re - entered the trend arena in the form of handbags, cross body bags, bum bags and clutch and can be found in a diverse range of patterns from tonal satin type aesthetics to iridescent colourful hues.

Pair tonally with any colour palette or encourage clashing patterns bringing a sense of timeless elegance to your style.

All the classic boot cuts are on trend; thigh high, knee high, calf height and ankle height seen both in beautifully glossy hues as well as patents and textured materials.

Wear with trousers of both wide and straight cut and long skirts or pair with a dress or oversized shirt for a sexier more glamorous look. Wear socks pulled up over the top of the boot in a eye catching colour or pattern to further encourage a more stylised look.

Further cosiness ensues for the colder months in the form of gloves with an elegant to the elbow design, encouraging an elegant aesthetic but with a funkier approach found in pretty much every colour of the rainbow and in a diverse range of fabrics from neon latex to fingerless tweed.

These can be perfectly paired with the one shouldered party dress of the season creating a fully invested representation of the 80s retro remix trend.

Dazzling adornments for your ears are a necessity this season, the bigger and more ornate the better and designed to be long enough to graze your shoulders - a perfect trend for the party season.

Wear to complete your seasonal party look or add a large impact to a much more relaxed aesthetic or tailored style.
