Style Icons: Aaliyah Haughton
Before Rihanna and beyonce there was Aaliyah, Aaliyah was an R&B Mega star she was big in the 90's and early 2000's. Her music was a futuristic evolution of R&B music creative beats fused with powerful real life lyrics. She was years ahead of her time her collaborations with super producer Timbaland produced many classic hits. She tragically died in a plane crash on August 26th 2001 after shooting the music video for her single "Rock the boat". Aaliyah style was quintessentially hip hop her style embodied the raw energy 90's hip hop culture.
"I stay true to myself and my style, and I am always pushing myself to be aware of that and be original."
Aaliyah style was expressive and vibrant she wore clothes to make a statement her style reflected her personality. Aaliyah was a beautiful woman but she hid her beautiful frame under baggy loose fitting street clothes wearing brands like Karl kani, Tommy Hilfiger and Fubu. She made women feel comfortable to wear more masculine clothes a style that is a staple of todays fashion.
